Warm, tender apples are cooked down with a touch of sweetness, then topped with a golden walnut crumble. Instead of a traditional cobbler topping, this recipe features a blend of walnuts, sugar, and flour that bakes into a nutty, crisp layer, adding rich texture and cozy flavor to every bite.
2 lbs granny smith apples, cored, peeled and diced
¾ cup brown sugar
2 tbsp corn starch or flour
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup flour
½ cup brown sugar
¾ cup California walnuts, chopped
½ tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp butter, melted
Optional: ice cream or whipped cream
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
In a large baking dish, add your chopped apples, sugar, starch, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Toss until evenly coated.
Make the walnut crumble topping by adding the flour, sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon to a large bowl. Mix well.
Pour in the melted butter, and mix until well incorporated. It should be a little clumpy.
Spread the walnut mixture over top of the apple filling.
Bake for 35-40 minutes.
Remove and enjoy with ice cream or whipped cream
