Chili Onion Crunch Walnuts
DESCRIPTION
Slightly sweet, slightly savory and slightly spicy, you’ll love this crunchy walnut snack.
Ingredients
- 1/3 C French fried onions
- 1/2 - 3/4 tsp Crushed red pepper
- 1/3 C Brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp Sea salt
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 Egg white
- 2 C California walnuts, slightly heaping
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place onions and red pepper in a small zipper seal bag. Seal bag and crush with a meat mallet or with a rolling pin to crush all ingredients.
- Transfer to a small bowl and stir in brown sugar, sea salt and paprika.
- Whisk egg white in a medium bowl until foamy. Add walnuts and stir well with a rubber scraper to coat as evenly as possible.
- Sprinkle with onion and sugar mixture and stir well again.
- Transfer to prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until walnuts are golden brown, stirring every 5 minutes. Let cool to crisp, then transfer to an airtight container.
Recipe Tip: Walnuts may also be cooked in an air fryer set at 350°F for 8 - 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
