Our Industry
The California Walnut Board and Commission are here to build demand for the exceptional product our growers produce. It is our goal to make walnuts the “go to” nut of choice for consumers’ cooking, baking, snacking, and the ingredient of choice for food manufacturers and food service operators. Our pillars of success, production research, post-harvest research, health research, and export and domestic marketing, work in tandem to increase demand and move current and future crops.
Working For You
The California Walnut Industry has grown in the last decade, with production nearly doubling since 2007. The Board and Commission continue to work on your behalf through:
Integrated marketing programs to increase awareness and drive retail purchase
Concept development of innovative new products and shelf life testing
Promotions featuring walnuts with restaurants such as Sizzler and Wendy’s
Defending against burdensome industry regulations and federal and state tariff/non-tariff trade barriers
Advocating for industry through USDA’s food purchase and distribution program
Securing USDA grants to bolster export market promotions through Market Access Program and Agriculture Trade Promotion Program funding
Marketing Activities
The California walnut industry has a long tradition of producing a healthy, safe, quality food product for our global consumers. Sharing our story through smart, strategic marketing and advertising programs allows us to connect with our audiences and increase demand for walnuts.
Domestic marketing initiatives are focused on driving sales through initiatives that grow demand, heighten awareness and increase usage in the United States.
The California Walnut Commission (CWC) Health Research Program
was created to extend the understanding and knowledge of the nutritional value of walnuts and explore the role of walnuts in a healthy diet. We are committed to the scientific integrity of industry funded research.
Tip: Maintain the freshness of California walnuts by keeping them cold. The best place to store them is in the refrigerator or freezer.
