Turkish Shredded Wheat Dessert with Walnuts
DESCRIPTION
An easy-to-make Turkish dessert with the perfect blend of sweet and savory. Ground walnuts are mixed with wheat cereal and butter and later soaked in a syrup to create a soft and sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 3 cups toasted wheat squares cereal, crumbled
- 1-1/2 cups California walnuts
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
- Whipped cream (optional)

- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Place room temperature walnuts in food processor and pulse for a few seconds at a time until walnuts are fine and evenly ground.
- Butter a 9-inch baking dish. Combine cereal, walnuts and melted butter in large bowl. Stir well. Pour mixture into prepared baking dish. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Pour syrup over hot browned mixture. Cover and allow to cool. Cut into squares. May be served with whipped cream on top.

- Combine the sugar, water and lemon juice in a small pan over medium heat. Simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
