Walnut-Crusted Onion Rings
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour, divided
- 1 cup water, sparkling
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 10 each onion rings, 1/8-inch wide
- ¼ cup California walnuts, raw, finely chopped
Preparation
- Divide flour into two equal parts. Mix half of the flour with sparkling water and add ½ teaspoon sea salt. Consistency should be that of heavy cream.
- Season onion rings with remaining sea salt and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Lightly coat rings with other half of flour.
- Dip rings into flour and sparkling water batter.
- Lightly coat rings with walnuts.
- Fry at 275° F until crispy and serve.
