Recent Advances and Future Directions in Production Research

The CWB’s production research program uses short and long-term approaches to devise solutions for today’s orchard problems and industry challenges. Short presentations by the leaders of five current CWB-funded projects highlight recent orchard-ready advances from their projects and discuss future directions of research in their areas: Dr. Pat Brown, UC Davis Walnut Improvement Program on new walnut varieties; Dr. Dan Kluepfel, UDSDA-ARS on new pest & disease resistant rootstocks; Dr. Ken Shackel, UC Davis on irrigation scheduling advances; and Parry Klassen, East San Joaquin Water Quality Coalition, on maximizing nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency.
