Walnut Growers of California have voted to continue the federal marketing order for the California Walnut Board.
The federal marketing order was amended in 2008 to require a continuance referendum vote once every six years. This was the first such referendum conducted, and a vote of at least two thirds of eligible growers voting or two thirds of the volume represented was needed to continue the marketing order. When all the ballots were counted, 95 percent of eligible growers who voted and 93 percent of the volume represented in the referendum voted in favor of continuing the order. Those eligible to vote in the referendum were current growers who also engaged in the production of walnuts within the State of California during the period of September 1, 2012 through August 31, 2013.
