In July the CWC brought together researchers and scientists from around the world to talk about walnuts and walnut research.
Researchers and scientists from around the world were brought together in late July for the California Walnut Commission’s annual Scientific Advisory Council to discuss new and diverse areas of walnut study such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and metabolic syndrome to name just a few. The main purpose of this meeting is to gather scientists to review directions for new research and to brainstorm on current projects.
The CWC is well-known in the food industry and research community as a pioneering leader in supporting and furthering health research. Much of this reputation is due to the expertise and advice provided by the CWC’s Scientific Advisory Council, whose members include world-renowned health researchers, physicians, and nutrition experts. Each year we tap into the wisdom of this group by hosting a three-day meeting to discuss research findings and explore new opportunities.
Also in attendance were some of our industry members. Bill Carriere enjoyed attending and said, “A great deal of the success we are enjoying is a direct result of the wealth of knowledge we have about the health benefits of walnuts. That knowledge was discovered through the Commission’s health research program which is guided by these experts.”
Presentations given at the meeting included reports from ongoing studies, discussions on walnuts roll in diabetes management, and areas for further research. “The meeting reinforced my knowledge that California walnuts are nutritious. Since the meeting I’ve added even more walnuts to my diet as a direct result of the things I learned,” Carriere said.
