Walnuts and Omega-3s
Walnuts are the only nut that provides a significant amount of plant-based omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), with 2.5 grams per ounce. Omega-3s are essential fatty acids that humans need to incorporate into our diets, as the body does not produce them on its own. Walnuts are unique among nuts for this reason, and this white paper discusses why walnut-derived omega-3s are unique, why they are “good fat” and why consumers are becoming more educated on the need for omega-3s in the foods they eat — resulting in an increased demand for more plant-forward food and beverage products.
