California walnut stuffed dates are wrapped in smokey bacon and baked until crisp. Drizzled with a slightly spicy glaze, these little bundles are savory, sweet and spicy all in one bite.
12 medium Medjool dates, pitted
12 California walnut halves
6 strips smoked bacon, thinly sliced
3 Tbsp pure maple syrup
¾ tsp chili crunch, well stirred
Chives, minced, to taste
Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
Open each date and place a walnut inside. Fold back over to seal in the walnut.
Wrap each date with half a slice of bacon and secure by pressing a toothpick through the center of the date and walnut.
Place on baking sheet and cook for 10 minutes. Turn and cook for another 10 minutes. Drain briefly on a paper towel lined tray, then transfer to a decorative platter.
Stir together maple syrup and chili crunch and transfer to a small decorative bowl with a small spoon. Place on platter with dates and serve warm. Top with chives, if desired.
