Advocacy

The Board and Commission continue to work on behalf of growers and handlers to advance the industry. We continue defending against burdensome industry regulations and federal and state tariff/non-tariff trade barriers. Activities include advocating for the industry through USDA’s food purchase and distribution program, and securing USDA grants to bolster export market promotions through Market Access Program and Agricultural Trade Promotion Program funding.

Direct Assistance to Farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) ​

On September 18, 2020 the USDA announced the details of the second Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP 2). USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will be administering the program and will begin accepting applications Monday, September 21 through December 11, 2020.

Credit-back is an authority that several agricultural commodities (almonds, prunes, etc.) use to allow handlers to conduct eligible marketing activities in return for a partial credit/rebate on assessments.
